HM King Juan Carlos I of Spain has appointed HRH Don Pedro de Borbón-Dos Sicilias y Orléans, Duque de Noto, as President of the Royal Council of the four Military Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara and Montesa. This ancient body was formed in 1523 to administer these great historic institutions de Borb­; the previous presidents were HRH Don Juan de Borbón y Battenberg, Count of Barcelona, who was succeeded by HRH Infante Don Carlos de Borbón-Dos Sicilias y Borbón-Parma, Duke of Calabria. Following the resignation of the latter, HM the King nominated the Infante Don Carlos' s only son, HRH Don Pedro, as President in his place, on 28 April. Don Pedro was installed as such by HM on 6 May in a ceremony in the Royal Palace.
